Harry Crowell, our Chairman, was fortunate to meet Mrs. Nancy Reagan several years ago and have a short talk with her about Vista Gardens — what a thrill! Mrs. Reagan, along with several Board Members from the Ronald Reagan Foundation, gave their permission to call our library the Ronald Reagan Library in memory of our Former President.
A special Award from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, CA is the flag we proudly display with the American flag at our entry gate. Until this flag was made especially for Vista Gardens, there was never another flag like it flying anywhere but at the Presidential Library itself! What a huge honor!
As we all know, former President Reagan was affected by Alzheimer’s disease. He wrote a most stirring letter announcing his condition which was national news. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library gave Harry Crowell an autographed book of President Reagan’s daily diary as part of the Award for our beautiful Vista Gardens Memory Care Community from the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County (AAOC). The Award recognized the ongoing efforts of our Community to find ways to help educate and comfort families and make life better for the loved ones afflicted with this terrible disease.
These honors reflect the awareness and gratitude the Reagan Foundation and Library have for the many, varied efforts the Vista Gardens’ staff makes every day, in large and small ways, for patients and their families who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
